What is Find My Area?
Find My Area helps you identify parts of a Spanish municipality that best match what matters to you when
deciding where to live. You choose a town or city across Spain and rank up to seven everyday priorities in order of
personal preference. BarrioRadar then analyses the municipality's residential areas to show you where your
chosen lifestyle priorities align most strongly. It is designed to narrow down where to begin your property
search, rather than claiming an objectively best neighbourhood for everyone.
How does Find My Area choose the
recommended areas?
Find My Area evaluates residential locations against seven everyday criteria: public transport, supermarkets,
primary healthcare centres, official primary schools, secondary schools (ESO), public hospitals, and lifestyle (dining and cultural access). When you place these
factors in your preferred order of importance, BarrioRadar compares residential grid cells across the
selected municipality based on that ordering, grouping high-matching neighbouring cells into distinct
recommended search areas.
How do my chosen priorities influence the
recommendations?
Ranking your chosen priorities expresses their relative importance to your daily routine. Placing a priority
such as public transport or schools at the top tells BarrioRadar that connectivity or education should
influence the results more strongly than criteria placed lower in your list. Any criterion you mark as Don't
care has exactly zero influence on the results.
What does the match percentage
mean?
The match percentage measures how closely the factual characteristics of an area fit the specific priorities
and ordering you selected. It is not an objective neighbourhood livability score, a property valuation, a
safety rating, or a universal claim that one area is superior to another. A high match simply means that the
area satisfies your chosen combination of transport, daily shopping, healthcare, education, and lifestyle exceptionally
well.
What does BarrioRadar mean by a
recommended “area”?
To evaluate towns and cities consistently, BarrioRadar analyses Spain using a nationwide 250-metre
residential grid and groups contiguous high-scoring residential cells into cohesive spatial clusters. These
recommended areas are analytical search areas generated by BarrioRadar to help home hunters explore
neighbourhoods. They are not official administrative districts, historic neighbourhood boundaries, or
municipal cadastral zones.
What data does Find My Area use?
Find My Area relies strictly on authoritative open spatial datasets and registries. Residential population
distribution is derived from official door-level address portals provided by Spain's National Geographic
Institute (IGN CartoCiudad). Public transport departures are computed from official GTFS schedule feeds via
the Ministry of Transport (MITMA National Access Point). Healthcare facilities are sourced from the official
Ministry of Health registries (SIAP for primary care health centres and CNH for public hospitals). Primary
and secondary education centres come from the Ministry of Education's official registry (Registro Estatal
de Centros Docentes). Lifestyle and supermarkets are mapped using verified OpenStreetMap spatial records.
Are the distances walking or driving
distances?
Unless explicitly stated otherwise, all proximity distances displayed in Find My Area are straight-line
geographic distances measured directly from the residential location to the nearest qualifying facility.
They do not represent pedestrian street-network walking routes or vehicular driving routes. Straight-line
geodesic distance is used to provide an objective, uniform national benchmark across all municipalities in
Spain.
How does BarrioRadar measure public
transport?
Public transport connectivity is measured by the volume of scheduled departures during the morning period
from 07:00 to 09:00 on representative weekdays, aggregated from stops within an approximately 600-metre
spatial radius. It reflects published transit agency timetable schedules and does not represent expected
passenger waiting time, route headway, walking time to stops, or real-time service disruptions.
What happens if BarrioRadar does not have
complete data for an area?
In accordance with BarrioRadar's Zero-Fabrication principle, missing or unavailable data is never estimated,
fabricated, or treated as poor access. If a municipality lacks published transit timetable feeds or a
specific healthcare registry is incomplete, the selected-area details show the criterion as limited or
unavailable. The system adapts its calculations rather than penalising the neighbourhood or inventing
default scores.
Can I use Find My Area anywhere in
Spain?
Find My Area supports municipality-level searches across all 8,100+ municipalities in Spain based on
nationwide residential address coverage. However, the completeness of individual supporting datasets can
vary geographically. While residential distribution, official schools, and healthcare facilities cover Spain
nationally, public transport schedule coverage depends on whether local and regional transit operators
publish open GTFS timetable feeds.
Does Find My Area tell me the best
neighbourhood to live in?
No. There is no universally best neighbourhood that suits every person. Someone who places primary schools
and health centres first may receive different recommendations from someone who prioritises public transport
and supermarkets. Find My Area recommends locations tailored exclusively to the priorities you choose.
What is the difference between Find My
Area and a BarrioRadar location report?
Find My Area helps you decide where to search when you know the municipality but are unsure which
neighbourhoods match your lifestyle. Once you find a specific property listing or address within a
recommended area, you can run a
BarrioRadar property
check to inspect its door-level walking accessibility, nearby transit, daily amenities, and official
location scores before making an offer.
